The story behind it by Janice Nigro I got kicked out of the basic research system, simply put. A lot of disappointment followed, and perhaps only when I was on a beautiful island in Indonesia talking with the dive guides who could sing, play the guitar, and make jokes to me in English with single... black and white undone
I did a series of black and white underwater photos in response to a challenge. One blogger asked to see the original photos so here they are. They are all good photos in color although the coral photo in color detracts somewhat from what is special about it/the photograph. Amazing life underwater which I had... Continue Reading →
underwater artist: algae
The last entry in the 5 day black and white challenge. I chose a giant clam abstract. These creatures have amazing patterns on their mantles which from what I understand are due to symbiotic algae. Algae seem to be the real underwater artists which supply colorless animals with a coat of "paint". The giant clams... Continue Reading →
thousand piece puzzle
Day 4 of the black and white challenge. I love this photo of honeycomb coral but I sometimes wonder whether my tastes are too simple in underwater photography. It was somehow an easy photograph to take and yet I am not sure how often people actually stop to take such photos of the coral. It... Continue Reading →
exposed…
Day 3 of the black and white challenge. Goby on closed soft coral. It looks like a trick that suddenly the soft coral disappeared and revealed the hiding place of the goby. I just really liked the texture without the soft coral "flowers".
like a flower
My second entry in the 5 day black and white challenge. Some more famous so-called celebrity backsides have been flooding/plaguing the internet lately. I thought I would challenge those photos with a classy photo of a nudibranch...sort of from behind...
black and white of a black and white nudibranch
Yikes my photos are usually all about color and I have been tagged in a black and white challenge. My first photo then is a black and white of a black and white nudibranch very up close...taken in Lembeh Strait, Indonesia. A friend calls them the Chanel nudibranch.
transformation of a scientist into an artist
transformation of a scientist into an artist by Janice Nigro I am not coming up with much to write about this week except the sunset. It is the only thing I travel to see lately, and it is only a block and a half from my apartment to watch the sun go down over the... Continue Reading →
healing powers of scuba diving
healing powers of scuba diving by Janice Nigro Chocolate. Friends. Work. All valid motivators for travel. There was no Godiva in Norway except at the airport, although I have to wonder what my choices would have been if I had been living in Ulaanbaatar. My friends live in or are from places I want to visit.... Continue Reading →
Dive ‘n’ drive for one
Dive ‘n’ drive for one by Janice Nigro Ok, I am stealing some terminology for the second time during my swimabout which if you remember is the first term that I stole from someone much more clever than myself with words. The new one is “Dive ‘n’ Drive” which pertains to the fact that you... Continue Reading →
